Residents drive carefully during Sunday’s storm

On Sunday, while making my way 50-minute drive from Spring Grove to West Manchester Township, I noticed that a lot cars were parked along Route 116.

At the time, the county was struggling with the first snowstorm of the season. The snow-covered roads were treacherous and plows were still few and far between.

Many of those behind the wheel were still in fall-driving mode, meaning that they thought 50 MPH was a safe speed for whiteout conditions.

Anyhow, during my adventure, I noticed that drivers were simply pulling off the road and parking their cars in what little shoulder Route 116 has to offer.

I’m guessing they were waiting for the snow to end?

I’m not sure.

I have seen a similar phenomenon happen in the spring, when heavy rains lead to the shoulder of Route 30 becoming a mile-long parking lot.

What’s up with that, York County?
